#7: Always “On”
Stewards are always “on stage”. They faithfully represent the owner’s interests. Stewards learn about and further the relationships of their Master as it relates to the entrustment. Stewards behavior, language, attitude, methods of interaction – all reflect character and persona of their Master.
#6: Make Difficult Decisions
Stewards make difficult decisions on behalf of the owner which are in alignment with the owner’s beliefs, values, goals and objectives. These decisions are made even if they are unfavorable to you personally. Stewards think through how their decisions and actions will reflect on the owner.
#5: Engage conflict
Stewards engage conflict with the interests of their Master at the forefront for how that conflict is resolved. Stewards strive to resolve conflict in a way that furthers the interests of the owner and faithfully represents the owner’s interests and character
#4: Avoid Conflict-of-Interest
Stewards err on the side of doing what is in the best interests of the owner and do not look for ways to personally gain through their association with the owner
#3: Accept Responsibility for Outcomes
Stewards recognize that they have been entrusted with a valuable entity – the performance of that entity is their responsibility.
#2: They give Unvarnished Truth to the Owner
Stewards deliver the unvarnished truth to themselves and the owner – their master.
#1: Know the Owner
Stewards work on getting to know and understand the owner. They take initiative in developing the relationship with the owner and understand that they cannot steward their entrustment well until they know the owner well.
